Born in Lisbon, New York, son of Stephen Kelsey and Charlotta Nichols. Early life and family data; conversion to Mormonism in 1836 at Kirtland, Ohio; marriage to Abigail Finch, 1839; removal to Nauvoo, Illinois; missionary labors; service in building the Nauvoo Temple; riverboat experiences; exodus west; arrival in the Salt Lake Valley, 1851; plural marriages to Janet Mullins, 1852 and to Mary Jan Cox, 1853; settlement in Little Cottonwood, Utah; participation in Echo Canyon War, 1857, as a Major in the army; call to mission in Dixie, Utah; vocation of building houses and mills on mission; removal to Overton, Nevada; return to St. George, Utah, 1891.
